Dogs In Cast Stone : THE PROCESS
-
The process of sculpting a statue begins with a visit to a breeder or owner who shows a particular breed and understands the AKC standards required of the breed.
-
While there, pictures are taken as reference so I can get a good idea about the personality of the dogs in the familiar surroundings.
-
Next a clay model is developed. At a point that the basics are completed, the model is reviewed with the breeder/owner for their critical input.
-
Upon their approval, a latex mold is made with a rigid "mother mold" over that.
-
After the mixture of natural stone materials has been poured into the mold and allowed to set, the statue is demolded and the parting lines are removed.
-
Lastly, a patina is applied to accentuate the detail in the sculpture.
The Statue is then ready for the home garden.*
* If you live in a region that has freezing temperatures, it is recommended that you not leave the sculpture outside during the winter months.
